Firearm & Gun Collection Appraisals
Local Help in Nashville and Middle Tennessee
Accurate, well-supported valuations for individual firearms and complete collections, backed by decades of museum, historical research, and collector market experience.
High Caliber History serves collectors, families, estates, attorneys, and institutions throughout Nashville and Middle Tennessee. Appraisals are available for estate planning and settlement, insurance, inherited collections, sale decisions, auction placement, and historically significant firearms.
When the Number Has to Be More Than a Guess
Online listings and price guides can provide a starting point, but they rarely tell the whole story. Two firearms that appear nearly identical can differ substantially in value because of condition, originality, configuration, markings, provenance, restoration, documentation, or current collector demand.
A professional appraisal identifies what is actually present, selects the appropriate type and effective date of value, and explains the evidence supporting the conclusion.
High Caliber History provides appraisal and advisory services for:
Estate planning and probate
Insurance scheduling and documentation
Equitable division among heirs
Inherited firearms and collections
Prospective sale or auction consignment
Historically significant firearms
Authentication and provenance questions
Collection inventories and long-term planning
For larger estates, visit the Estate Appraisals and Planning page.

Appraisals for Different Purposes
Estate and Probate
Executors, heirs, and attorneys often need a defensible fair-market valuation as of a particular date. The assignment can also identify firearms that require additional research before the estate sells, divides, or distributes the collection.
Insurance
An insurance appraisal documents the collection and develops the appropriate replacement value. This is different from the amount a dealer might offer or the net proceeds expected at auction.
Sale and Auction Planning
An appraisal can help an owner decide which firearms warrant individual attention, which can be grouped, and which venue is best suited to the collection. High Caliber History also offers an independent Auction House Liaison service.
Historical Identification and Authentication
Some assignments require more than a price. Factory records, markings, configuration, ownership documents, and physical evidence may need to be evaluated before a credible valuation can be developed.
Collection Planning
Collectors who are not ready to sell can still make the future easier for their families. An organized inventory, selected appraisals, supporting records, and clear instructions can prevent confusion and unnecessary loss later.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will you appraise a single firearm?
Yes. Services can be tailored to one family heirloom, a potentially significant collector firearm, or an entire estate collection.
Can you appraise a collection from photographs?
Some assignments can be completed remotely, particularly when the purpose and condition of the firearms allow it. Photographs may not establish originality, replaced parts, mechanical condition, finish quality, or subtle markings. A physical inspection may therefore be required.
What kind of appraisal do I need?
The correct assignment depends on its purpose. Estate, insurance, anticipated sale, charitable donation, and equitable distribution can require different value definitions, effective dates, and reporting standards. The intended use should be established before work begins.
Do you buy the firearms you appraise?
High Caliber History’s role is to provide appraisal and advisory services, not to make an immediate purchase offer. If a sale is planned, I can help compare appropriate options and identify suitable auction houses or other venues.
Can you help with an inherited collection if I do not know what is in it?
Yes. You do not need model names, production dates, or a complete inventory before requesting an initial consultation.
Do you provide legal advice about possession or transfer?
No. Appraisal and collection consulting services do not replace advice from a qualified attorney or licensed firearms professional concerning ownership, probate, possession, or transfer requirements.
Understand What You Have Before You Insure, Divide, or Sell It
Whether you are responsible for one important firearm or a lifetime collection, the first step is accurate identification and a clearly defined appraisal assignment.
